Blyth McManus became interested in material culture while earning her master’s degree in art history. By a happy coincidence, her academic backgound in American art and material culture of the latter 19th and early 20th centuries matches closely with the dates of the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal’s operational era. Now working at the C&O Canal National Historical Park as a Cultural Resources Specialist, she enjoys caring for the past in the hope that these materials can better inform the future. McManus lives in Williamsport, MD, with her husband, three cats, and a pollinator garden.
