Dan was born and raised in the Finger Lakes Region New York State. Dan and his wife Lisa have been familiar faces at canal symposiums, festivals and events for many years. His family owned and operated Mid-Lakes Navigation where Dan captained the canal passenger vessel Emita II for 35 years. He was appointed by Gov. George Pataki in 1997 to the New York State Canal Recreationway Commission and continues today as its longest serving member. Dan is past president of the Canal Society of New York State and a recipient of the New York State Canal Conference’s “Spirit of the Canal Award”. He was a presenter at the 2006 World Canal Conference and is today the Executive Director of the Canal Society of New York State.
