Ralph Buglass is a C&O Canal Association member who has led several nature walks for the organization focusing on trees. He is also a frequent speaker for Montgomery History, the historical society of Montgomery County, Maryland (through which the C&O Canal runs) and is the author of a pictorial history of the county’s seat of government. In addition, he teaches at several lifelong learning programs in the Washington, DC, area. He has a bachelor’s degree in American history from Cornell University in New York and a master’s in journalism from American University in Washington, DC. He grew up near the C&O Canal, riding his bicycle on the towpath every chance he got, spoiling him for any biking trips that involved hills steeper than the slight inclines at the canal’s locks.
