Dr. Stacy Leroy Daniels (PhD, University of Michigan is a chemical-environmental engineer with experiences in large and small businesses, teaching, consulting, nonprofit organizations, and historical societies (inc. the American Canal Society).    In his book, “The Comedy of Crystal Lake”, he tells of the attempt to build a canal from Crystal Lake in NW Lower Michigan to Lake Michigan in 1873 that turned into a beach.  This event was “the largest inundation from an inland lake due to a dam breaching in U.S history” (for 147 years) until surpassed by an even larger inundation in central Michigan in 2020 which occurred literally in his own back yard!  As chronicler, and author of many environmental papers, he often assumes a role as his alter ego, Archibald Jones, Jr., “President pro tem of the Benzie Co. River Improvement Co.”
