Hagerstown highway sign (courtesy of AARoads)Conveniently located near the junction of two Interstate highways, I-81 and I-70, Hagerstown is only a few hours drive from many places in the eastern United States. Check Google for directions.

Fly to Washington or Baltimore

Three major airports are within an 80-mile drive of Hagerstown:

  • Dulles (65 mi.)
  • Reagan National (74 mi.)
  • Marshall Baltimore/Washington International (77 mi.)

Renting a car is an easy way to get from any of these airports to Hagerstown.

Our pre-conference tour will have a rendezvous location in the Washington, D.C. area. Similarly, our post-conference will have a drop-off point in the D.C. area.

Bay Runner Shuttle schedules two trips daily from BWI airport to downtown Hagerstown. Shuttle depart at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. The journey takes two hours. One-way fares are $51 for one person or $85 for two.

Car services offers curb-to-curb service from all three airports. As the conference approaches, we will post more information here.

By train

Amtrak logoAmtrak’s Capitol Limited offers daily service to Martinsburg, WV, 21 miles south of Hagerstown. The westbound train from Washington, D.C. arrives at 5:45 p.m. The eastbound train from Chicago is scheduled for 11 a.m., but frequently runs late. A taxi or ride-sharing journey to Hagerstown could run $40-$75.

If you are traveling along Amtrak’s Northeast Corridor, you can take advantage the Bay Runner Shuttle mentioned above. The shuttle’s two daily round trips between BWI Airport and Hagerstown stop at the BWI Rail Station.

Commuter bus from Washington, D.C.

Maryland Transit Administration offers commuter bus service between Hagerstown and the D.C. area. Route 505 runs between Shady Grove station at the outer end of the Metro system and the Motor Vehicle Administration at 18306 Col Henry K Douglas Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

Hagerstown-bound buses leave Shady Grove between 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Shady Grove-bound buses leave the MVA between 4:05 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. The advertised journey time runs between 60 and 75 minutes.
